FRANKENFOODS: Cornerstones of the Next Green Revolution
This presentation is made possible by Vegan Chicago and the Chicago Skeptics.
This talk is an introduction to GMO technology. It describes the history of human genetic tinkering, changing tens of thousands of genes at a time through selective breeding, and contrasts it against the surgical science of today's biotechnology. It is a real discussion of the awesome power, as well as limitations, of transgenic technology. The work is presented by Dr. Kevin M. Folta, a scientist working on the cusp of transgenic applications to agriculture.
If you have an opinion, come and discuss it. If you don't have an opinion, come an get one! The discussion is rooted firmly in science, so check politics and belief at the door.
The next presentation is in Chicago at the Black Rock Pub, 3614 N Damen, on December 28th, 2010 at 8pm. Come discuss the future of food and the role of biotechnology.
